Electrostatic Discharge.

There may be a transfer of electric potential when two materials with different electrical charges come near each other. This common occurrence is designated Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)–with lightning being one example. Integrated circuits and other electronic devices are easily damaged by ESD–and it is important to prevent and/or control ESD in electronic production facilities.
