Largo, Florida – August 19, 2020 – The IEEE Power & Energy Society announced the 2020 IEEE PES Society Award Recipients. Award recipients are selected for their exceptional achievements through a comprehensive nomination and evaluation process. Thomas R. Beckwith, CEO for Beckwith Electric, was recognized with the IEEE PES Award for Excellence in Power Distribution Engineering for developing innovative solutions for voltage control and protection of power distribution systems.

In congratulating Tom on receiving this honor from IEEE PES, Dr. Murty Yalla, President of Beckwith Electric said “Tom’s vision and leadership of Beckwith Electric along with his contributions to company R&D activities through the Design Review Board (DRB), have achieved many milestones. As a result, electric power distribution systems in North America and other parts of the world have received tremendous benefits in achieving flat voltage profile, energy loss reduction, peak demand reduction through conservation voltage reduction (CVR), reduced maintenance of LTC transformers, and voltage regulators due to reduction in tapchange operations and seamless integration of DER with the help of interconnection protection devices.” The award and recognition by the IEEE PES is a testament to Tom’s 50 years of dedicated service to the electric power industry.

The award’s purpose is to recognize engineering contributions that have enhanced the quality and economy of electric power distribution. The award is presented annually to an engineer who has demonstrated the vision to see opportunities to substantially improve the effectiveness and utilization of electric power distribution.
