Formed in 1967 by the late Robert Beckwith in the garage of his Chicago home, the first product produced was a lightning protector for power station batteries. As its reputation for its commitment to quality and manufacturing grew, the company expanded and moved to its current location in Largo, Florida in 1974. Beckwith Electric innovations continued with the introduction of the first solid-state tapchanger control in 1968, and the first microprocessor protective relay in 1981.

Today, Beckwith Electric has thousands of protection and control units in service worldwide, with a reputation for cutting-edge technology, defined by its customers and refined by Beckwith.
