Largo, Florida – December 10, 2009 – Beckwith Electric introduces a new intensive four-day seminar that will provide the knowledge, inside information and the resources needed to understand the complex topics of integration and implementation of Volt/VAr management for Smart Grid communications and technologies of today. Whatever the current status of a power system, the seminar will teach the next steps to reach individual system upgrade goals toward Smart Grid communications integration and implementation.

The Smart Grid Essentials Seminar will present some theoretical, but mostly applied technology, practical applications, case studies and a hand-on lab experience relating to integrating Volt/VAr management strategies consistent with Smart Grid objectives for asset management and reliability in the distribution system. Presented will be various topics including implementation solutions regarding power quality issues; sags, swells, CBEMA and harmonics, transformer and regulator control applications, as well as, protection of dispersed intertie and alternative green energy sources.

Additional topics include system performance enhancements and the use of auto-adaptive techniques, VAr biasing, line drop compensation, voltage profile flattening, conservation voltage control, paralleling, SCADA heartbeat integrity checks and automatic change over at communications loss. This new seminar is directed towards utility engineers, network designers, information technology and power communications specialists, consultants, equipment/control engineers, manufacturer engineers as well as others who specify power systems development products and settings for current and future technologies.
