Largo, Florida – April 12, 2012 – Beckwith Electric, a leading power and automation technology company, announced today that Charles Mozina, has been selected to receive a 2011 I&CPS Prize Paper Award. This award will be presented at the Awards Luncheon held during the 2012 Industrial & Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference in Louisville, KY, May 20-24.

Mozina is currently a Protection and Protection Systems Consultant for Beckwith Electric specializing in power plant and generator protection. His work involves projects relating to protective relay applications, protection system design and coordination.

Mozina is an active 30 year member of the IEEE Power System Relaying Committee (PSRC), is the past chairman of the Rotating Machinery Protection Subcommittee, and is also active in the IEEE IAS I&CPS, PCIC and PPIC committees, which addresses industrial protection systems. He is the past U.S. representative to the CIGRE Study Committee 34(now B-5) on System Protection and has chaired a CIGRE working group on generator protection. Mozina chaired the IEEE task force that produced the tutorial “The Protection of Synchronous Generators,” which won the PES’s 1995 Outstanding Working Group Award, and he is also the 1993 recipient of the PSRC’s Career Service Award.

Mozina has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, is the author of a number of papers and magazine articles on protective relaying, is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio, as well as an IEEE Life Fellow. He has over 25 years of experience as a protective engineer at Centerior Energy (now part of FirstEnergy), a major investor-owned utility in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was the Manager of the System Protection Section, and was Application Manager for Protection Products with Beckwith Electric for over ten years. He is also a former instructor in the Graduate School of Electrical Engineering at Cleveland State University.

The 2012 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference is a gathering of experts who conduct research and develop standards in the industrial application of electrical systems. The 2012 Conference will have a full program of tutorials, technical papers, and working group meetings during the five days of the conference.
